TidyMonth

For accounting firms

Send us the monthly. Keep the tax work.

You have clients whose monthly bookkeeping you do not want and whose January cleanup you cannot avoid. TidyMonth does the monthly work through the year and hands you a year-end package you can actually start from. You keep the engagement, the return, and the relationship. We do not file taxes.

The short version

The client subscribes to TidyMonth at $199 a month and is billed by us, not by you. We keep their books current. At year end you receive the package below. The work you were going to do in January was already done in March, and in June, and in September.

What we do, and what stays with you

The line is bookkeeping on one side and tax on the other, and we do not cross it. If a question is about treatment rather than about what happened, it goes in the open questions list and comes to you.

TidyMonth does
  • Categorize the month and chase the owner for context instead of guessing
  • Reconcile up to six bank and card accounts every month
  • Have a bookkeeper review the close before anyone sees it
  • Produce a monthly profit and loss, balance sheet, and close packet
  • Deliver the year-end package to you
You keep
  • The tax engagement, the return, and the filing
  • Every judgment call on tax treatment
  • The client relationship and the advisory work
  • Adjusting entries at year end, which we book when you send them
  • Anything requiring a license, including attest work

TidyMonth does not prepare, review, sign, or file tax returns, and does no attest work of any kind.

The year-end package, delivered to you

One handoff at year end, addressed to you rather than forwarded by the owner in four separate emails.

  • Profit and loss. For the year and by month, so a swing has somewhere to be traced to.
  • Balance sheet. With the supporting detail behind each balance.
  • Trial balance. The ledger as of year end, ready to tie out.
  • General ledger. Every account, every line, exportable.
  • Reconciliation summaries. Per account, per month, showing what cleared and what did not.
  • Owner decisions log. What the owner was asked, what they answered, and when.
  • Supporting documentation. The receipts and statements behind the entries that have them.
  • Open questions. What we could not resolve without you. Stated, not buried.

The working books are held in Prosper, the system TidyMonth runs the work on. You do not need an account, a license, or a login: the package and the ledger exports come to you as files. Tell us the order and format you want them in and we will match it where we can.

Referring a client

We issue you a short code. Your client starts at your own link, and the referral is recorded on their intake so we know who sent them and so the year-end package is addressed to you from the first month.

tidymonth.com/start?src=cpa-yourcode

Nothing about that link changes what the client sees or what they pay. They fill in the same seven questions, get the same fixed price in writing, and are charged nothing until they say yes. If they are not a fit we tell them so and tell you.

About referral fees

Who this fits

US service businesses on a cash basis with one entity, USD transactions, up to six accounts, and up to 300 transactions a month. Consultants, coaches, small marketing and design and development agencies. Inventory, job costing, payroll, multiple entities, and multiple currencies are outside our scope, and we would rather say so now than in February. Books that have fallen behind are welcome: catch-up is quoted as a fixed price before anything is charged. See pricing.

Ask for a code

There is no form. Write or call, tell us roughly how many clients you have in mind and which states you are licensed in, and a person answers. If it looks like a fit we send the code, the disclosure wording, and the scope in writing before anyone is referred.
